Printing Error: 0x75bc7140

Ok I have searched and found no similar threads with this specific error. I would REALLY like to know how to tackle this thorny little problem. It affects certain stations only and certain printers only. It is most pronounced on dual core stations, but is also affecting some of my older laptops also.

 

Station OS: Windows XP Pro SP2

Server: Windows 2003 SP1

 

Printer: Various. The problem I am dealing with at the moment concerns an HP LaserJet 1320

 

Driver: hp LaserJet 1320 PCL 5e [i have removed the PCL 6 driver so that all that is left on the laptop now is the Microsoft Office Document Image Writer Driver and the Microsoft XPS Document Writer]

 

The issue: When we try to print from this laptop to the shared printer the spool service crashes out with an error dialog showing [see attached picture]

 

I have addressed lots of similar errors with printing and ironed out most of them. This is different because searching for 0x75bc7140 on the web results in three links which either are not applicable to my problem or are not accessible to me because I am not a member of experts-exchange.com.

 

Ideas for tackling this problem welcomed. Thanks.

Correct formatting

I presume you've tried to update your drivers and/or tried alternative ones?

 

Is there anything 'stuck' in the spooler? Check C:\Windows\system32\spool\printers and remove any .tmp .shd and .spl files.

Thanks for that Geoff. Yes I have tried the alternatives and tried updating the driver. The Microsoft knowledgebase article came close as it after following the instructions there it allowed me to install the printer without error. It was only when I tried to print a test page hat the same error message with the same error number [0x75bc7140] came up.
