Restricted mode for YouTube

Morning all,

 

Does this work anymore? I have added the DNAME in DNS and it goes nowhere. Going to restrict.youtube.com in a browser gives a 404 broken robot.

Ok fixed it by adding HOST A Name pointing to 216.239.38.120 instead of CNAME/DNAME to restrict.youtube.com

 

tldr Ofsted are apparently asking to check searching for extremist content on schools/colleges networks. We have good filtering, but it doesn't filter videos.... It does now!

There are 3 ways of doing it:

I went for Option 1, but did it differently. I created new Primary Forward Zones in MS DNS for each listed URL and then created an A record in each zone pointing to the IP, 216.239.38.120(restrict.youtube.com) or for a less restrictive version 216.239.38.119(restrictmoderate.youtube.com). I couldn't get CNAME/DNAME as documented to work.

 

As per the link, you can inject into http headers or use chrome policies on chromebooks, and you also use g-suite if you have that capability with full accounting, i believe.

 

The only problem I envisage is just how restrictive it is! Time will tell

I found 216.239.38.120 far too restricted at my school. Had to use 216.239.38.119 (restrictmoderate.youtube.com).

 

You may find the same.

dose this also put age ratings on the adverts? we had one today for the bride of chucky....
