Roaming Profiles vs Redirected Folders

I am sure a question may have been asked similar to this already, so sorry for posting again if that is the case..

 

We have started our Windows 10 migration/Server 2016 AD project, we are still in the planning stage at the moment but we hope to introduce our new 2016 DCs this week and go from there. At the moment staff use roaming profiles with redirected folders for some folders.

 

We are thinking that for Windows 10 we will look at getting rid of roaming profiles and just have users login with a new local profile each time they login to a machine. We use Outlook so we can use Group Policy to have Outlook setup automatically, but I was wondering what experience people have had and what they are using with Windows 10.

 

The things I am worry about slightly that may not working without roaming profiles are:

 

- Users personalised settings, screen savers, desktop backgrounds etc.

- Windows Explorer font size, accessibility changes on their profile

- Outlook signatures

 

We can get away with personalised settings like screen savers I think, it may initially be a bit of a problem because people are so used to being able to customise their desktops etc, but ideally I think we should be setting corporate screen savers, backgrounds etc.

 

What about Outlook signatures though etc, not sure if we redirect AppData if this will work, or if we will have to use roaming profiles for this still.

 

Would love to know other peoples views on this and what paths you have taken on Win 10.

All I will say is Microsoft’s plan is to get rid of Roaming Profiles so definitively do not go that route!

There's always UE-V if you're on Enterprise.

 

Only people I let use Outlook are people who don't move computers, OWA and Gmail is fine otherwise. I just use local profiles, but it's a small school, so after a while everyone's used every laptop

 

With Timeline and Sets it looks like MS is syncing settings via cloud, so keep and eye out for that
