caffrey Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 I've nearly finished rolling out site wide unifi switches and now I'm looking at routing Fed up of Smoothwall being solely responsible for routing (had a hiccup this morning) And now with the possibility of introducing VOIP I want to introduce more VLANS (CCTV, Printers etc.) I need something a bit better Those of you with Unifi networks are you using the USG Pro, seeing as they don't have L3 switch as of yet?
timbo343 Posted November 10, 2017 Posted November 10, 2017 From what i understand the USG can do all of this. I've been asking questions over on the Ubiquiti networks forum. It might be worth asking on there too.
caffrey Posted November 10, 2017 Author Posted November 10, 2017 I have a full unifi setup at home that I experiment with too which helps (ac-pro - 8 port poe - usg) inter vlan routing appears to be enabled by default, might build another Smoothwall and set it up in proxy mode only and have a USG doing the heavy lifting

UniFi edge switches DO offer later 3 routing, just upgrade the firmware.
caffrey Posted November 11, 2017 Author Posted November 11, 2017 UniFi edge switches DO offer later 3 routing, just upgrade the firmware. I'm trying to stick with Unifi not edge, I just like how everything is in one place
ass17 Posted November 11, 2017 Posted November 11, 2017 (edited) You can keep the switches just have one edge router/switch that all the switches connect to act as a core switch. Edited November 11, 2017 by ass17
caffrey Posted November 12, 2017 Author Posted November 12, 2017 Isn't the USG just more or less the edge router with less features and a gui ?
fsbilby Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 Yeah, you can try to upgrade the firmware...
