leachim Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 I have been given 3 iphones to try and retrieve data from 2 won't charge and 1 is dud Is there a way to extract the files from them ? Thanks
Geoff Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 Yes, one way is to use a professional data recovery service. Expect to spend ££££. This is probably the only way to get data off the dud one as the flash storage is part of the main board. However even then, device encryption may frustrate the issue. The non-charging ones may be fixable (either DIY or local shop) by replacing the charging port / board. This will work out much cheaper if successful. YMMV. Moral of the story, backup to iCloud.
leachim Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 Thanks I don't think they want them "fixed" Just the data off - and spending ££££ isn't at the top of their list !! Any other ideas people....
difinity Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 There is no chip off data recovery solution for the iPhones due to their security measures. The iPhone would need repairing to a state that it can be powered up to enable data recovery. As Geoff suggests that could be the charging port or even the battery. They could however require more detailed work. There is software available I believe that can pull the useful stuff from an iTunes backup, but that's only useful if the owners backed up.
elsiegee40 Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 (edited) There really isn’t any excuse for not backing up key stuff to iCloud. If only because it makes transfer to the next idevice so easy... and you can log into icloud on a browser to access your contacts, etc. In fact, I migrated the contacts from Mr gee40’s work blackberry to his iphone via icloud on a browser. It worked a treat Have the owners of these devices tried logging into their icloud from a browser? https://www.icloud.com/ Edited October 31, 2017 by elsiegee40
