KibosJ Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 Hey Guys, Just wondering if anyone had tried this and could let me know if it works. I've enabled data deduplication for our student user folders and it appears to be working well, around 1TB saved and I now want to enable it for staff, but we have offline line files enabled. Does anyone know if it has any negative effects on offline files or whether it is safe to enable? Thanks, James
Steve21 Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 Offline files are stored on the users machine assuming you mean offline files? So they're un-deduped anyway Steve 1

Steve21 Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 Yep, anything that transfers off a dedup'd server becomes undeduped (even if going to another server that's got dedup on, then just gets dedup'd again effectively). So once it leaves the server no different in any way in regards to that We have dedup on every file server and use offline etc for laptops and never had any probs Steve 1

Steve21 Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 We run 3 days for the primary two (students/staff) as find a lot of files get deleted fairly quickly so no point deduping them that fast Have it set for students/staff only to background optimization overnight, and things like staff shared/admin shared etc run more often as less likely to delete things on there (and often huge dumps of files by staff for new lessons etc) Steve 1
KibosJ Posted October 13, 2017 Author Posted October 13, 2017 That's great, that's what I am doing at the moment. Thank you very much
