[sims] Sims - historic number of students in roll.

Hi all

 

Anyway of getting an easy list of the number of students on roll for the past few years. Can't figure out how to mash out a simple report for this.

Do you need it for a specific time?

 

Whoever does your school census is likely to have copies of the census reports and they'll contain your own roll numbers at census times.

For the last few years. Presumed there would be a way of just looking back? Not sure we have to do the census either as we are private? I could be wrong though. Cheers for your help

Had a quick look, there's a report called Population Analysis (Dated) that will give you what you need.

Reports -> Student Analysis -> Student Totals for Year groups

 

You can set an effective date and it returns the number of students in each year, plus a total, for that date.

Does Population Analysis use Excel? We used Population Analysis, and the report just used the built-in analysis tool, I may have added the reference date on it and other fields to order by. We just ran it repeatedly. I'm surprised it uses Excel to manipulate the data, I had thought it would be doing something clever internally.

 

I remember doing this to show student movements and trends, looking at numbers at start, middle and end of each year; each analysis table had to be dumped to Excel then worked on. There were always anomalies due to people starting on day 1 and not arriving, or leavers not leaving. We had to do this periodically, and it was better to do it at the end of each year than wait for the request as it was always mid-year and then hard to back track and check the data.

The report I specified does, it outputs the data to a pivot table. Only come across it recently because it was broken when someone tried to run it.

There should be one that just uses the built-in analysis widget, which hopefully doesn't use Excel. If there isn't one, it should be simple enough to build.
