If your Science Depts are looking for a system to streamline bookings for equipment, I can commend Lablogger. It saves SO much time, and confusion. Simple to get started (fill in the teachers' timetables) but can do stock control and store experiment templates and other clever stuff.

 

Web-based, so no installation. Free for the first year, and only £99 a year thereafter.
