Printer deployment issues

Hi All,

 

I deployed a printer using GPO,printer deployed alrite.i have gone on printer preferences to change the default to monochrome but anytime users printer it comes out in black

Please what can I do ?i don't want to go to each machine and change it.

 

Secondly the previous Technician deployed the old printer using vbscript and no proper naming covention ,how can I locate the vbs on the server so I can disable it as the old printer still appears on users computer and when I try deleting it manually it says access denied.

Assuming the printer is on a print server:

1) Open Print Management

2) Right click the printer in question

3) Select 'Set Printer Defaults'

4) Set your options accordingly

 

This will set the default settings for all users who have this printer added.

 

As for the VBScript, it is most likely a logon script, either defined in AD or in Group Policy. You can check the following:

 

For AD:

1) Find the user who is having the printer added via VBScript.

2) Select the 'Profile' tab

3) Check the 'Logon Script' field

3a) If this field has an entry, then the script will be located within your NETLOGON folder. You can browse to it and find the script to inspect it.

 

For GPO:

1) Open Group Policy Management, either on a DC or a machine with RSAT.

2) Right click 'Group Policy Results'

3) Select 'Group Policy Results Wizard'

4) Go through the wizard and select 'Another Computer'

5) Press 'Browse' to use AD to find a computer that a user is getting the printers added via VBScript (the machine must be powered on at this point)

6) Press 'Next'

7) Select the user in question from the list of users

8) Press 'Next'

9) Press 'Next'

10) Press 'Finish'

11) The generated report will appear below 'Group Policy Results' and may take a short while to populate the info.

12) Within the results, select the details tab and you will see all group policies that are hitting that machine and user.

you dont want to use monochrome, you need to make it grey scale

Depends on your printer driver, it will be under prefrences normaly where you can choose colour. Monochrome gives a negative effect on the printing so black becomes white and the white becomes black
