No updates

I'm adding a couple of 2016 servers to our current 2012 stock, and I'm guessing that server 2016 is basically 99.9% Windows 10 so I shouldn't be suprised when updates don't work!

 

I've got two brand new VM's both stuck at 0% downloading. Is it the usual case as with Windows 10 that updates are just broken or do I leave it longer than the 48 hours I've already waited?

The same also happened to me when one out of the 4 2016 servers I installed was stuck at 0% downloading.

 

You need to install this update - Microsoft Update Catalog - which should resolve the issue for you.
