Server 2012r2 upgrade to server 2016

Hi All

 

Looking at updating my vms and hosts to server 2016.

 

In place upgrades or new Vms?

 

I think the hosts will need to be wiped as i want to move from 2012r2 with GUI to 2016 core.

 

Would it be worth moving to Hyper-v Server 2016 in staid of core?

 

How did you go about doing it?

Cant you can upgrade 2012r2 to 2016 then remove the roles to make it a core server, in 2012r2 the command to take it to core is Uninstall-Windowsfeature Server-Gui-Mgmt-Infra -Restart. I know in 2012r2 you can switch between core and GUI but in 2008 it was a reinstall job, I would presume 2016 would would be the same as 2012r2.
