RemoteApp - default save/save as question

We are looking to implement RemoteApp for some BYOD, but the one issue I can see is how we handle user files. Say for instance, we publish Word. When a user goes to open or save a file, the default location is the RemoteApp server disk. All of their local drives are mapped, but I don't believe, even with adequate training that all of the users would be capable of using/understanding the system. Ideally, we would like to completely hide the server disk and have their system (C:) drive set as the default. Even better if it were their actual documents folder in their user space.

 

I have looked through group policy and done a fair amount of searching online, but so far, have not been able to find the solution. Anyone here using RemoteApp in this fashion? Would love to get some input/ideas if anyone feels like sharing!

To understand your question better, you want all documents to be saved on another server rather than the server hosting RemoteApp?

 

If this is the case, you need a combination of Folder Redirection and "Hide these Specified"/"Restrict these..." policies set within Group Policy to both hide and revoke users saving to the drive of the RemoteApp Server.

 

If you are looking to have a policy that applies only to the RemoteApp Server, Loopback Processing is what you need to setup with "Merge" (unless you want to have a completely separate User Policy for RemoteApp/RDS.

Hi Tom,

 

We are currently using another solution for delivering apps to personal windows devices, with it, the app is streamed to the device and the only storage that is accessible is whatever the local system offers. We are trying to see if we can get the same result with RemoteApp. Essentially, we only want the users of remoteapps to be able to open and save to their own local device storage and have it be easy to use. Another possibility that we are entertaining is providing a mechanism that would easily allow the user to save to a personal cloud storage account (OneDrive, box, etc).
