I've been using Wireshark to look at ARP broadcasts and see some of the ARP broadcasts are asking who has the address of the file server and the addresses of both DNS servers. Does this sound right as I'm sure I read that if a network is correctly configured the client will get that information from DNS first. Total broadcasts per minute for all addresses is around 600. Is that a lot?

thats normal, arp is looking for the hardware address that relates to the ip address for the servers.

Yep this is correct. ARP is for the MAC Addresses. DNS contains IP information.
