Gene Cernan - Apollo 17 Commander, last Man on the Moon and Captain America has died

That sadly puts the first steps and the last steps beyond living memory.

 

Geno Cernan was without a doubt the most astronaut astronaut who ever lived. If you listen to him talk it is like someone took Charlton Heston, added some Captain America and spun it around until Gene Cernan was born. My wife has been long suffering with my obsession with the Apollo program and I think the highest compliment that could be paid to Cernan is that when she thinks of the archetypal American moonwalker she thinks of Gene Cernan.
