office 365 sync users

i know its possible to use a tool to sync ad users to azure allowing for single sign on etc. What happens if users already have accounts on 365 and ad and you want to sync and marry them up?

 

so lets say internally i have [email protected] and their office 365 username is [email protected] can i manually set it so the accounts are "the same" or will it just create a load of new accounts

I think you can add another domain suffix and add their email address to the GP object to get around that. Did it a while ago but I think you turn on advanced settings to add the suffix part. A sync should then soft match based on their email and username with the correct suffix.

 

You can always wipe the immutable ID of the O365 account if the existing account wont match up.
