Devices for SEND Department

Hi,

 

Just want an idea on how you ensure there are adequate devices in your SEND departments. I manage the IT for a large secondary school and we are looking at how to ensure the students and LSA's have access to a device.

 

Currently we have 2 small classrooms with 4 student desktops in each room with 1 smartboard desktop connect to the smartboard.

 

Our SEND manager is now requesting laptops for some of the children who require a laptop day in day out to prove they need one for their exams, which causes us a problem because of how we purchase kit and refresh it. IT is purchased out of a capital expenditure budget each year, departments are not allowed to use their own budgets to purchase kit.

 

My new proposal is they do away with all the desktops and replace them with 20 laptops which effectively doubles the amount of devices they have and should give them enough to sign out to students on a permanent day to day basis.
