DNS Query / Not working

Our FQDN is (for example) academy.school.co.uk and this is all working OK etc.

 

We own the domain school.co.uk and can browse websites on that domain.

 

I want to redirect computers on the domain to a website that is hosted internally via domin name. Externally the website is accessible via external.school.co.uk - and this works fine.

In school however this does not work and according to SWGfL this is how it is designed. So I need to configure DNS to point external.school.co.uk to redirect to the internal IP.

 

If i create a school.co.uk Forward lookup Zone then it'll work - but that then stops getting to anyother school.co.uk web page (i.e. [http://www.school.co.uk) without me adding lots of DNS entries.

 

So how can I do this. I want one website on the school.co.uk to redirect to an internal IP, and the rest to go out onto the internet.

 

Any ideas?

I think your best bet is to just add the zone internally and add the required DNS entries to make everything work. This is called split brain DNS, and is the normal way to accomplish what you want.

Thats what I thought and hopefully they will not be many additional DNS entries I need to add.
