leachim Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 I have a Dell 17" 1720 Laptop Every few seconds there is a delay when using the Touchpad, then it will work for a few seconds etc USB mouse is fine Here's the weird thing - problem goes away when running on battery The charger that is rated at 6 AMPS works ok - no problems with Touchpad The smaller one (although advertised as working with the 1720) is what causes the problem - it is rated at 19.5 V 4.62 A = 90 W The larger one is same voltage - 6.2 A and 130 W No other issues other than the intermittent touchpad.... Any ideas ?
difinity Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 It sounds like an earthing issue, I've seen similar occasionally with non genuine chargers.
leachim Posted August 18, 2016 Author Posted August 18, 2016 Ah Is there any way to counteract this ?
leachim Posted August 18, 2016 Author Posted August 18, 2016 Just tested the small one and there is no metal in the 3rd earth pin - so no connection between house earth and laptop The larger one has a metal earth pin - so there is the link.....
leachim Posted August 25, 2016 Author Posted August 25, 2016 Yep Just to confirm - I bought a similar 90W power supply with a metal earthing pin (UK) and I have no problem Hope this helps someone
