[sims] Extracting Previous Schools?

Hi,

 

I have imported CTFs for our new Y7 cohort starting in September, but I needed to now run a report that extracts their previous school (i.e. their last primary school). I have built a report that includes the 'previous school' field, but when I run it, the output is blank for most of the students (around 70% of them).

 

I can't for the life of me why this would be the case, as I've checked each affected student record, and it definitely contains their previous schools.

 

Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?

Only a guess as I don't really do CTF stuff but wouldn't it currently be their "current school"? Doesn't it only become previous once it's on roll e.g. 1st Sep etc?

Thanks for responding. When I run the report, I set the 'effective from' date to 05/09/2016, so it treats them as current Y7s. The reports works for some students - it pulls out their primary school as expected, but most of them are rendered blank. Completely confusing!

 

As for current school - is there a 'current school' field in the list anywhere? I can't seem to see it anywhere...

Previous School is a sub-report. Double check if you have any filters applied to the sub-report that may be interfering with the results and causing them to appear blank. For example, you might have tried filtering schools with a leaving date after 22nd July but any schools that break up before that date would show the students as blank because they don't meet the sub-report's criteria. You might want to try ticking the "Show only first result" tick box underneath the filter panel but I have no assurances this will show their most recent school.

Hi. I don't put any date range filters on the report - the only filter I use is year group (i.e. Year 7). This pulls out the correct list of kids, but just renders some of them blank.

 

Here are the report options I select:

 

- Student

- On Roll Students

- Fields chosen: Legal Surname, Forename, Previous School, Date of Arrival, Leaving Date

- Filters: Year 7

- Sort: None

- Effective From date: 05/09/2016

Works OK on mine but I have School History records part complete anyway (It's still CTF hunting season!). Have you got start/leaving dates entered for previous schools for the students appearing blank? Add school name and you can check this in bulk. I'm not sure if the dates are compulsory or not, but it's not uncommon for a CTF file or three to get mangled or incorrectly populated in the summer transfer.
