Hyper-V integration services

On moving VMs from 2012 to 2012r2 I see there is a new integration service offered called guest services. Goggle tells me this is for transferring files using powershell so is it needed as I managed ok before?

It's about copying files to a VM without it needing to be on the network. So you could copy a file into it even if it doesn't have a network card etc.

 

We don't use it as all ours are on network, but if you had a test one etc that isn't on the network you'd have issues getting files to it etc
