Lithium Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 Does anyone have an Avantis OpenCD server and if so, have they tried upgrading the HDD in it? Ours currently only has a measly 30gig... but I want something more substantial to get it used a bit more...
macca Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 we have open cd we had to buy a code from advantis to unlock the rest of the hard drive
Lithium Posted February 11, 2008 Author Posted February 11, 2008 So if I buy a bigger one, it'll be locked to 30gig? How much is the code and are there limits to how big it can go?
mrforgetful Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 We've got one but not thought about upgrading it, more like getting rid! Sure it has it' uses, but if for some reason it's off noone notices the programs are there, just that it takes forever for the Start Menus so load!
macca Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 ours had a 80 gig hard drive in we just got a code and unlocked it but not sure how much
6Foot2 Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 (edited) We had one of these which only worked for one day. We sent it back, it came back. It still did not work. Sent it back, it came back,...To and fro like this so many times I lost count. They [Avantis] even sent a loan server while they [top technical guys at Avantis, with the managers personally monitoring progress] were 'fixing' ours. That failed too! Anyway on to the real reason for replying: When I formatted the HDD in our server cannibalised some bits from another server to get it up and running I found that it was under supplied on the power supply front. I could only add an extra HDD and not the CD or DVD drive I also wanted to add. See this post: Dual SATA HDD Computer It would seem that, at least with the genetation of machines that were suppled to us, that the power supply was [slightly?] under spec'd. Edited February 14, 2008 by 6Foot2 Correct formatting errors in original post.
Sirbendy Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Ah, the CDServe... God, that takes me back to my last school.. Funny little box. We had a 15 DVD drive "tower stack" unit as well..what a pig it was.
sahmeepee Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Lithium: you could probably buy our whole CDServe for the cost of a new hard disk if you want it! I don't see what they can do that daemon tools pointing at an ISO can't. Maybe our CDServe doesn't have the features of the newer ones..
