silvestre Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 hi Guys i have a MD3420 and a R730 server. Both are connected via a SAS cable. I have created a VD and added the host to the SAN. I have also mapped the VD to the host. But its not showing up on windows. The server has H830 card connected to the san via SAS. It also has a perc card with internal drives. It shows the internal drives fine. does anyone have any sugesstions.
PotNoodleTech Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 You need to install the Modular Disk Manager software onto the R730 server - this (should) detect the SAN and allow you to fully configure it.
silvestre Posted July 4, 2016 Author Posted July 4, 2016 I have installed Server core on the server. I have installed the modular disk Manager on a win 10 PC and configured it via its ethernet management interface.

Installed the MDSM software on the server and it still does not detect the Virtual disk. does the H830 card need to be in raid mode or HBA mode?
PotNoodleTech Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I believe you should be in pass through (non raid) mode on the H830 controller as the RAID configuration has already been set up on the MD3420.
silvestre Posted July 4, 2016 Author Posted July 4, 2016 Just checked the Dell site and the H830 is not supported for the 3420's. need to go back to my supplier.
