Hi there,

I'm building a custom report in SIMS that gives information about attendance and absences. I have built the report, and all runs ok but I want to explore using the "effective date" of the report to see what the data would have looked like a few weeks back, mainly to see if there are any trends in the data, and flag up concerns or show that things are getting better. In my naive view, changing this effective date should give me the data as it would have been on that date. But whenever I run the reports at two different dates, the data always seems to be the same, with the same attendance and the same number of absences. Am I misunderstanding how the effective date works, or is what I want even possible?

Many thanks!

I haven't found any of my reports that can examine attendance between two dates (which is what you're really after).

However the built in reports via Reports >> Lesson Monitor do have that facility.

Are any of those capable of giving you what you need?

It may be a matter of taking one of those reports and using excel to merge the output with the other data you want to add.

Thanks for your reply. Do you know if you can run any of those Lesson Monitor reports via the CommandReporter tool? And does anyone know what the effective date actually does?

The effective date does act a bit like a time machine, so say you wanted to know who was on roll on a certain date, you could use the effective date. Or if you had set changes throughout the year, you can see what set they were in.

But I don't think it works that way with attendance.

That's annoying that they tease that kind of functionality but then it doesn't flow through to all aspects. Thanks for your help though.
