Website Redundancy

Recently we have moved our website onto our virtual infrastructure, rather than paying for a VPS.

 

My biggest worry is if the Internet goes down (which is very very rare) then we lose access to our website temporarily. My first thought was there must be companies out there that you can point your public DNS record for your website to and it will forward it onto my web server but should the host go down it will redirect it elsewhere temporarily. Is there such a service available?

 

I could of course setup a copy of our site and change the DNS record, but by the time that has propagated the Internet would probably be back up.

Only just got around to looking at this. It all looked so promising until I saw the Maximum Upload Size when using CloudFlare's CDN is 100MB. Not good for what our website is used for. I like the idea of it though, I just need to have a look around to see if there are alternatives.

Would the upload size be an issue? I mean it's literally a stop gap till your website is backup and running, atleast users will be presented with a cached version of your site albeit with some limited functionality.

It's not only when it is down by the looks of it. My website would go through CloudFlare all the time, not just when it's offline.

Correct but I thought the upload limit was only when accessing the offline version of the site - I've not actually looked into this so you may well be correct, in which case... ignore me.

As I suspected, here is the response:

 

"The limit is consistently applied. Your users would need to use a grey-clouded subdomain (i.e. one that bypasses CloudFlare) to upload anything larger."

 

I had also heard about something called Incapsula, but I haven't looked into that one yet.
