Just a quick question please folks,

Installed a new server today and everything went swimmingly until we switched on the SIMS Server and it needed to rebuild the array of the 1TB system drives, the server is a Dell Poweredge T20 with 16GB RAM 2 1TB system drives and 2 2TB data drives, I have left it running as when it booted I did not even see the logon screen just a mouse pointer moving round the screen and a HDD light that seemed to be permanently lit whilst listening to the churn of the SATA drives.

It's a Hardware Raid 1 configuration and the question is how long should it take to re-build the drive as I set it going around 3pm this afternoon and kind of hope it will be finished for when I arrive on-site tomorrow morning at 9, although the drive is 1TB it's only using around 200GB.

Just thought I would add the following as well, the RAID is 'Intel Rapid Storage Technology' and the message is as follows,

Volumes with "Rebuild" status will be rebuilt within the operating system

Although the server does not actually fully boot up so is it stil rebuilding ???

It will take ages to rebuild a raid array. 1tb in our old file server used to take 12 hours to rebuild (raid 5)

I thought dell build to order now so user config was need (last brought a dell server about 3/4 years later.

Well by the time I arrive on-site tomorrow it will have been going for 16 hours so hope its finished by then, just got worried when it wouldn't get to the logon screen.
