Eudora931 Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Hi All, I am trying to run E1 from the server and have a client connect up to it from a laptop. Server and client enterprise files have been installed and all working ok on the server end, but having problems connecting from the client. The laptop can't see/ find the server on port 1200. The installation guy has said that he thinks we need to have a firewall rule for port 1200 - but he is not sure how/what exactly. And after our virus attack I'm reluctant to let anything in / out without being 100% sure. Does any one have any experience of this?... Advice? Thank you in advance
GeekyPete Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 It'll be the windows firewall. It's quite easy to do. You'll need to know what protocol too (TCP or UDP usually). You can then add the rule in globally or for a specific computer type to keep the security tighter. You need to open up RMMC, go to Registry Policies, Computer Policies, Then select a specific Computer Policy, Shared Desktop, Personal etc. Or open Global and select all computers if you prefer. Click on Windows Firewall in the Middle pane and check Define Port Exceptions. You should see other entries there in the form "2968:TCP:*:enabled:RM Virus Protect - RTVScan - 2968 TCP". Follow that for the syntax will end up something like 1200:TCP:*:enabled: RM Accounts E1 - TCP 1200 Remember to click Save Bottom Right (you'd be surprised how many people miss that). Reboot the computers and test.

Hi Geeky Pete, Thank you so much for the info - I'm actually running on server 2012 - we were running cc4 but rebuilt the server due to virus and took the opportunity to go vanilla.... Do you know how I can translate this to server 2012? and would the fire wall setting be for the laptop running the client or the server end? Thanks again!
GeekyPete Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 OK I assumed you were CC4. Not to worry, CC4 is only a GUI for AD/ GPOs anyway. You will have (or Should have) a GPO that sets your firewall settings. Have a look at this.. 1
