Hi there,

we've got RRC version 10.70 deployed on our network. We block access to certain sites from Remote Ranger, websites such as Youtube, this is so we can quickly enable access for those students who require it. However, blocking websites https encrypted websites through RRC has no effect on Google Chrome. I've tested with the latest version of NetSupport School and that seems to work fine. It seems that there is something wrong with the RRC hooking into Google Chrome, perhaps something to do with the dll file ChromeHook.dll. I've tried doing some investigation but have drawn up blank, on the NSS, there is no chrome hooking dll. I was planning on updating that file on my RRC setup but no joy.

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this or make the website restrictions apply to Chrome too? For now, I'm having to block Chrome access and forcing students to use Internet Explorer. As you can imagine, it's not a very practical solution.

Thanks in advance :)

Forid200,

RRC 10.70 is over 3 years old and with Google updating Chrome every 6 weeks unfortunately you will need a later version (copying a file is unlikely to work)

The latest version of NetSupport School has had many updates to the web restrictions including support for the Microsoft Edge browser (and other areas) so it would be worth taking a look.

I have asked one of my colleagues to PM you to offer assistance tomorrow (I am sure we can get you sorted)

Have a good evening.

Matt
