Remote Desktop Issue - Machine Shuts Down

I've had a couple of instances now where my Remote Desktop Machine is shut down by users. There are about 5 members of staff that have remote access, so I'm having words and making sure they don't shut down the remote machine, so hopefully it won't happen again.

 

HOWEVER I'm a pro-active kinda gal (lolnope) and I want to make sure that the machine will power on if it is shut down. I mean... I can do it by remoting onto the server, but automatic would be ideal.

 

The machine is a VM on Hyper-V on my main DC. It is running Windows 7. How would you get round this?

 

Can you set VM to wake on LAN and maybe get the server to ping it every hour or something?

can you not disable/remove the shutdown button with gpo?

I agree, disable the shutdown / restart buttons via GPO (only applied to RDS server). That is what I did for our RDS servers.

Also done...

 

User Config | Policies | Admin Templates | Start Menu and Taskbar | Change Start Menu power button Enabled and Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, and Hibernate commands Enabled

If it shuts down now it must be something to do with Windows Updates?

that should cause a reboot not a shutdown
