edutech4schools Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Not sure whats going on but I need to create a new folder on our servers data drive (D). I can create a new folder but when I try to rename it I get this error message - the action cannot be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program I can delete the new folder, just not rename it. I am the only person who has access to the servers d drive and am logged in as domain admin. Any thoughts?
Steve21 Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 You doing it from a client? (particularly w7) If so might by the old thumbnails bug :s If you click on another file/picture and give it a few mins then try to rename it does it work? Steve
edutech4schools Posted November 25, 2015 Author Posted November 25, 2015 Doing this at the 2008r2 server but will try what you suggest.
edutech4schools Posted November 25, 2015 Author Posted November 25, 2015 Waited about 5 mins but still no joy. I have just realized it's only the root of the D drive that I am having this issue, if I create a new folder in a current folder I can rename it fine. Very odd.
Steve21 Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 What permissions did you have set on the top layer? Maybe something that's only set to inherit? (Shouldn't be if Dom Admin though) Steve
edutech4schools Posted November 25, 2015 Author Posted November 25, 2015 well I added my username to the security on the d drive and it worked even though I am a domain admin. Sam
sted Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 id guess uac is on and users has been removed from permissions. logged in as user administrator (not an administrator) id lay odds it works as expected
