Quackers Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Does anybody have Veeam using the newer subscription option? We use the Veeam free version and would like to use the full version. I asked for a quote and got 3 different things back and don't understand what they cover. Veeam Backup & Replication Enterprise Plus Subscription License for VMware 1 Year Subscription License & Premium Support - Education Sector Veeam Backup & Replication Standard Subscription License for VMware 1 Year Subscription License & Premium Support - Education Sector Veeam Backup & Replication Enterprise Subscription License for VMware 1 Year Subscription License & Premium Support - Education Sector Whats the difference between these? and does the subscription cover an unlimited amount of HyperV Servers? (They have quoted for VMWare when we want HyperV but I'm sure that will not change the price too much if at all) We just have 9 physical servers as HyperV hosts, and 1 box with 36TB's on that we want all the backups to go to and the jobs to be run from. Just wondering what others have paid for Veeam.
PotNoodleTech Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 No not with the subscription method. Unless you have a ginormous server estate I would guess most schools would get away with the 'Essentials' version which as far as I can see does everything we need. Once you go above essentials, to Standard and further, the price jumps a fair bit. I got a 'Veeam Backup Essentials Standard 2 socket bundle for Hyper-V - Education Only' for each server. It was cheap. As in around the price of an average PC base unit per licence... Not sure if essentials is available on the subscription method it would be worth asking. 1
rich_tech Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Same here for us 'Veeam Backup Essentials Standard 2 socket bundle for Hyper-V - Education Only' for each server.
Cache Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 We have Essentials Plus 2 socket bundle which wasn't hugely expensive either and gives us both Veeam Backup and Veeam One
kmount Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 With 9 hosts you cannot use the 'Essentials' line unfortunately. (max of 6 CPUs) You'll probably find Standard is enough for you unless you want some of the more whizzy restore options in Enterprise. I cannot imagine you needing Ent Plus unless you're looking to integrate tightly with storage, or WAN accelerators etc. Good comparison of editions at - Editions Comparison – Veeam Backup & Replication
PotNoodleTech Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Ah sorry quackers, I missed the bit where you said you have 9 hosts. We only have 2, so Essentials is a good, cheap way of doing it.
