fiza Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 I am after some WD Re drives for our QNAP. It already has these drives in it and I want to expand its capacity. Do the drives come ready to install or would I need to buy a caddy of some sort suitable for the QNAP? Its a QNAP TS-1279U-RP.

Our QNAP device came with the front slots fully populated with caddies - Dell / HP servers, by contrast, typically seem to come with most of the front slots filled with basic covers that /look/ just like caddies until you take them out. If you have physical access to the machine it's probably easiest to simply check the front and see if it has a full set of caddies ready for you to fit harddrives in to. 1

Will check tomorrow morning.
southhamster Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 The QNAPS also come with a packet of 3.5 and 2.5 HD mounting screws which are countersunk to fit flush in the caddies. If you use ordinary screws you will struggle to get them in and out without graunching the sides(as I found out the hard way) 1
