Chrome Roaming Profiles

Hi all,

Firstly apologies if this has been asked before but have done a lot of searching.

We have set up roaming profiles in school for Google Chrome using GPO with:

 

Set disk cache directory

${local_app_data}\Google\Google Chrome\Cache

Set disc cache size in bytes

33554432

Set user data directory

${profile}\Google\Google Chrome\

 

We have found some users are experiencing slow log on and log off and believe the chrome user data to be the issue. We have found some users Google data directory to have grown to 125mb+. Is there any way to limit the user data directory (like the cache)? Or have other admins found a better way of managing the issue. Any feedback / advice happily received!

Hi all, So have done a bit more investigating.

Login for staff is taking about 1min 10sec to 1min 30sec on average from hitting enter to seeing a fully functional desktop, 3-4min for logout.

 

Have looked at my roaming profile for Chrome app data and it is sitting at 465mb but I have 2 accounts linked, a personal and a work account along with a few apps on both but I don't seem to see a big difference between my profile and other staff for login times but do on logouts. Other staff seem to be 150mb ish depending on chrome usage.

 

We changed the GPO for students back to standard settings and their login time dropped to sub 10 seconds.

Client machines are on windows 7 2/4gb ram, i3s (although specs do vary).

 

Are we expecting too much from roaming profiles? What sort of login times are other users seeing?
