Windows 7 Startmenu for Windows 10

If like me you like how it was in Windows 7 you'll be pleased to know Startdock has updated their software to return the Windows 10 Start Menu back to Windows 7. Happy days. All for the small price of £3.30 ish....

StartIsBack was updated to support Windows 10 a while ago too. At £1.98 it's even cheaper than Start10 (although still £1.98 more expensive than Classic Shell or the Windows 10 Start menu). Edited August 15, 2015 by Arthur

Ah I like windows 10 a lot but I still prefer the Windows 7 style start menu.

 

I hate all the crap metro style apps The now insist on installing especially the live tiles. In my opinion they have no place on an workplace device. Sorry mini rant......

It's easy enough to uninstall them on any edition of Windows 10.

Me neither. I can't see the appeal of the Start menu (even the one in Windows 7). It's not even that good.

 

As the designer of the original Start menu mentioned in a recent article, it's disappointing that people are still using it 20 years later.

When Windows 95 came out twenty years ago, its headlining feature was the new Start menu, giving easy access to programs and documents.

 

20 years later, the Start menu is still with us, making headlines once again as a key part of Windows 10.

 

It's something that gives Danny Oran, the ex-Microsoft interface designer who holds the patents for the Windows 95 Start menu and taskbar, mixed feelings.

 

"In some ways, it's a little disappointing the same stuff is in there," Oran says.

 

One the one hand, millions and millions of people use his invention every day. But it also means that in the 22 years since he first invented the concept, nothing better has come along.

 

Today, Oran is living in the Washington DC area and working in the healthcare industry, using his expertise to come up with strategies for fighting suicide.

 

"As fun as the Windows stuff was," Oran says, the work he's doing now is literally "life and death."

 

He only watches Microsoft from the outside, and he hasn't gotten his hands on Windows 10 just yet.

 

Still, those mixed feelings remain: Windows 8 had its ups and downs, he says, but at least it tried something new besides a Start menu he invented decades prior.

Each to their own. I'll always use the windows 7 style start menu over anything new because I just prefer it same as I'll never grow to like to crappy live tiles or any metro apps. Personal preference I suppose.
