Im trying to setup guest wifi on my Ruckus controller and want it to point to the smoothwall to bring up an authentication page so the users then get there normal level of access.

Ive spent hours so far playing with all the settings but i cant get it to do it!

Ive set it up as a a normal ssid on ruckus with a wpad file to launch the captive page on smoothwall.

Ive set it up as a hotspot ssid on ruckus with settings to force it launch the smoothwall captive page.

Plus a variety of other things and i cant get it to work without putting in proxy settings on the machine/ipad im using for testing.

Storing the wpad file on the ruckus.

Any ideas as to what im doing wrong?

What is the actual issue you have? Are you trying to setup Guest wireless or BYOD? Smoothwall doesn't have a captive portal for guest wireless.

If it is BYOD I would use Smoothwall radius, its much more slick. You put the credentials in the device to connect to the WIFI and then thats it. No need to authenticate again.

The issue is that the end users laptop sits there trying to connect to the internet but cant as the proxy settings aren't applied for the user.

Our school is being used by academies trust to host meetings/training and being able to provide wifi for these users would be good. The guest wifi will still have a password on it and i only tell the meeting organiser and slt for when they have visitors. I have also created a generic user in AD for the users to authenticate as to get access.

One of the primaries that i have just taken on have exactly this scenario setup in ruckus but i wasnt left the password for the ZD so i cant get on and check the config....

I want the below to happen:

1. find the wifi SSID

2. enter wifi password

3. open ie/chrome etc.

4. taken to a webpage for smoothwall login.

5. browse web as normal.

I may have read something wrong but surely this would just be a case of going to Web Proxy> Authentication> Manage Policies> and setting up "Redirect users to a Non-SSL Login page" on a relevant location in the appropriate policy table. Of course the users would still need a valid account to authenticate with.
