newpersn Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I'm looking at getting a incar dvd player for the kids in the back. I have a 2009 renault laguna hatchback. I have a aftermarket head unit in tha car already I would like to have 2 screens in the back and be able to play movies though usb. Any recommendations?
SpuffMonkey Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Wouldn't it be easier and probably cheaper just to get them a Hudl or similar each? 2
Dos_Box Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I'm with @SpuffMonkey here. In car DVD players and in particular their screens tend to be quite low resolution unless you want to spend an absoloute packet (think cheap airline seat screen quality here). It would be far cost effective (and more entertaining for them) to buy 2xHudl 2's and get a couple of seat mounting brackets for them IMO. 1
newpersn Posted July 28, 2015 Author Posted July 28, 2015 Ok. I will look in to tablet option. I've seen refurbished Hudl on ebay for less than £40. Thank you.
NotSoFast Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 I got mine Hudl 1s back in the day. The only thing to bear in mind is their age - too young and your passenger will be forever turning round to put the next thing on/fix volume etc. Mine are 4 and 8 now and manage OK, but younger than 4 I'd consider something you can control from the front.
synaesthesia Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Definitely go for the tablets. I bought a chinese head unit for my Focus a while back mostly so I can have built in GPS, but it also offers the ability to play DVDs, picture in picture, playback to screens in the back of the car. Resolution isn't fantastic as said - 800x480, however it could be said for a 7" screen that's enough. Biggest drawback? Chinese crap. Very much a lottery, you'll spend upwards of £150 to £200 and it may or may not be any good, depending on what components they found in the bins that day. 1
