Procurve Routing Issue

Where to start i have a procurve 3800 core switch with multiple vlans we have smoothwall and i am trying to change the interface from port 1 on the smoothwall to use port 2 for internet access.

 

I have changed the default gateway to the new ip address of interface 2 on the smoothwall, and changed the default route to match.

 

but when i run a traceroute from clients they are still going through interface 1 on the smoothwall, have i missed something obvious?

I presume and IPCONFIG on the client shows the new default IP address. Does a ROUTE PRINT command show anything that contradicts this ?

have you amended the ip route on the core?

yeah i have changed the route on the core to

 

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.0.30.98

 

10.0.30.98 is the new interface on the core

curious, how is your DHCP setup?

dhcp well the default gateway is set to the vlan address on the core.

That should be the smoothwall IP not the core switch IP.

All that would do is cause some kind of loop. There would be some other config on the switch that would eventually get the traffic to the Smoothwall. Change that static route IP to your smoothwall IP and you should find it will work (providing other stuff is configured correctly).

Yeah static route is pointing to the smoothwall interface is was the default gateway in dhcp that points to coreswitch

 

Smoothwall is 10.0.30.98

Ok well it seems that when i do a traceroute it gets reported as

 

smoothwal.domainname [10.0.0.2] old interface but if i disconnect the new firewall interface no traffic gets through its the bloody smoothwall reporting it wrong.

This is Starting to mess with my head, just humour me,

 

Are these internal or external ports?

What is port 1 now used for?

Why are you using port two for the internet?

Which port is the NTE (the ISP's router or similar device) plugged in to on the Smoothwall.

Which Ports are physically connected to the core switch and what vlans are they on?

What VLAN is the workstation on you are testing it with? Is it on the same one as the Smoothwall interface.

If not can you test it from a workstation that is?

If your connection from Smoothwall to Core is a \30 ip range you won't be able to set one up but atleast you know that every VLAN needs a static route.

Do you have static routes from the DFG in each vlan to the interface on the core that is directly connected to the Smoothwall interface 2?

Port 1 and 2 are currently for internet network, as im looking to replace smoothwall with a different filter hence why trying to get port 2 setup,

 

Fibre connection is in port 6
