kearton Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Ubiquiti's marketing literature for this model says "breakthrough speeds up to 1300Mbps" and that is has a "gigabit ethernet port", plus a "secondary ethernet port". I'm presuming you'd need both ethernet ports connected to get >1Gbps (when using 802.11ac) Or is this one of those "theoretical" maximums, and in reality you only need 1 cable because you're not going to get >1Gbps?

DMcCoy Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 The bigger question is how do you get 1.3Gb out of 802.11ac. Wireless overheads are considerably higher and real throughput will be lower. Wave 2 AC may sometimes be affected by 1Gb, but not wave 1. 1

m25man Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 (edited) 1.3Gbps is "wireless" throughput using 80Mhz channels and 3x3 mimo. Client -> AP or AP -> Client this is NOT the Phy interface speed. The 300mbps overhead in this figure is used for the wireless component of the envelope. In theory a gigabit wired packet can be transported over wifi with no loss in physical speed. In reality your never likely to see such speeds due to general interference and or co channel problems and that many end user devices even though they are .ac devices are not actually 3x3 mimo and do not support 80mhz channels. Most vendors claim 1.3Gbps as a theoretical max throughput on 80Mhz 5Ghz Xirrus is a totally different technology using arrays of wifi radios built on switches that can share aggregated copper uplinks or 10Gbe fibre You could have several .ac radios capable of 1.3Gbps connected to a single 10Gbe link servicing thousands of users.
