SCCM 2012 R2 - Extremely slow PXE Boots - at my wits end!

Ok, I struggled and I'm about to through my setup through a window and go home in a sulk!!

 

I have HP DL380p GEN 8 running Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V. I created a Gen2 VM for SCCM 2012 R2 with MDT 2013 installed and for the most part - works fine - except PXE booting is really really slow (30 mins from F12 to SCCM Screen - Boot image is 200MB!)

 

Once at the SCCM deployment screen, pulling down an images and installing packages/updates are fine - it is just the initial PXE boot part that is doing my head in!

 

I've tried changing the TFTP Block size, adding and removing MDT 2013 extentions - and still no joy!

 

I've recreated the Boot Images using copype command and using SCCM to create boot images using MDT.

 

My Hyper-v Virtual Switch is set up NOT to allow Management OS to share the NIC

 

No VLANs are in use

 

 

Anyone any ideas? I dont really want to scrap SCCM and move back to WDS/MDT for imaging.

What did you set the TFTP size to?

 

Also have you fully patched it as there were a bunch of hotfixes for slow pxe e.g. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2905002

I remember this being an issue with Hyper-V based SCCM servers, one of the very reasons we did ours with ESXi.

Yep - install 502 and the later patch 2910552 and made no difference.

 

Tried different blocksizes from 4096, 8192, 16384

 

I've just noticed there is a Driver on HP website for Broadcom drivers - dated April 2015 and mentions about Hyper-V and possible VMs dropping network connections.

Aye that's a driver for the VMQ bug from last year.

 

Did you also do the Window Size?

 

Are you getting the same issues if you try to pxeboot a VM? (Just know when I was reading before there was some issues with Cisco switch settings etc)

Bloody Driver!!!

 

Just installed the driver - rebooted and now PXE boot have taken approx 2 mins!!

 

Why oh why didn't I think about the driver!!
