Group Policy Playing Up

Right, so I'm needing to change a few GPO settings (new drive maps, new internet proxy settings etc) and I'm hitting a brick wall with an error:

 

Error: (0x80070020) occurred saving settings file.

 

The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

 

OK

 

I've had a quick Google about, but I'm not really finding anything useful. Could anyone give any pointers?

 

Things I have checked, making sure the DC has the correct permissions and is the PDC and checking where the GPO is trying to pull from / save.

 

I'd really like to avoid having to flatten the server and start again.

 

It's the only DC on site, though there is an old server which sits there looking pretty and running the WSUS and WDS.

Hate to bump, but just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what could be causing this?

AntiVirus could be locking something up? or the user profile you're using to access the console could be up the spout?

Hmm, I'll check the AV. Hopefully the user profile isn't up the spout as it's the Admin profile, though I'll try logging on with my other admin account and see what comes of that.

Ok, so this gets a bit weirder ..

 

The old server I mentioned (no longer a DC, but still running 2008 R2 non the less) I ran the GPM on there and managed to edit the policy that I wanted to without any issues, where as when I do that on the PDC I get the error above. GAH! Do I log on as a local admin and rename profiles to then log on as admin and see if that solves the issue, or will that cause other issues (not that I can see if should, but figured I'd ask the hive again! )

So perhaps not local administrator! lol ..

 

But I do have another admin account that I've not logged on with previously, so I'm giving that a whirl ..

And the winner is ... *drum roll* bad profile .. managed to get my own admin log on back and working, though the main administrator account could be an issue with rebuilding it .. but at least I have a control on the Group Policies again .. now to stop people winging about Flash / Acrobat / etc asking for updates .. lol ..
