markofealing Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Our PE and Games department have to regularly record activities for the OCR exam board, they also do some videos for teaching purposes. At present we use a couple of hand held cameras to record the activities and the IT department are then get given task of editing the video into segments using Windows Movie Maker. I was wondering how other schools recorded PE/ Games activities and whether their teachers did the recording and editing or whether they passed this off to the IT department . It would be useful to know whether video cameras, tablets or other devices are used and the associated video editing software. What we would like to do is to purchase a easy to use hardware/ software solution which would allow us to pass back the responsibility (including editing) to the PE/ Games department. Thanks
fiza Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Ours use iPad minis and we have never been asked to edit any videos, they do everything themselves.
Mako Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 We've been doing this for about 3 years now, I think. Maybe 4. It started off with borrowing digicams from the library. The problem came with the video editing part, neither the staff or the students knew how to edit a video. It took two years running of me giving lessons in Serif Movieplus for the staff to get the hang of it. Last year they bought two iPads and do the video recording on those. Touch wood I've not had to deal with a student or member of the PE department having a problem so far in the last year. Usual problems are when the kids take their video home, 'burn' it to a DVD, then when the staff member tries to watch it we discover they've just burned the project file, rather than the rendered video. Or they've done it in Movie Maker on their laptop, which won't be compatible at school as we don't use Movie Maker. Some of them flat-out refuse to use the software in school, which results in shrugged shoulders from our end when people wonder why it's not working.
simpsonj Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 iPads here as well, also used in Music and Drama to record performances. Actually the best use of iPads I've come across...
