Password Management Tools - Any recommendations?

Hi all,

 

I have asked to research and trial a password management tool and I am looking for recommendations.

 

Currently we have passwords for various different accounts stored in many different locations and methods and we would like to gather them up and store them centrally.

 

I think a feature that allows us to conrtrol user access to permit different people to see different passwords would probably be useful. Other than that, I am open to ideas!

LastPass has an enterprise version that allows you to share details with groups and individuals. I use the personal version and it is great. I've been thinking of getting it for the department and maybe extending to SLT, but that is a future plan.

I find KeePass incredibly useful. I'm not sure about different users as I've not looked into that feature, but as a password database/manager it's excellent.

Another Vote for keepass. We use it here and save the file to the network share. You can just save a new file with a different entry password if you want to have different groups of users.

Just had a quick look at the Keepass features, but I dont think it will be able to do what I need (with regards to providing different access to different users).

 

I see what you are saying about having more than one file, but presumably if I was to change a password I would then have to update the details in each different file for each set of users. Does that make sense?

Yes, but we have 2 "teams" if you like and systems have been separated out into these groups. So if a system is in team 1 then the password is located in team 1 Keepass file and other systems are in Team2. I know what you mean as it means there is the potential to have duplication with different passwords for the same system if there isn't one source. I agree it's not ideal, but that was how it was set up (not my idea) as we have some people who are paranoid about specific system admin details being available for others.

Personally use 1Password https://agilebits.com/onepassword - very slick experience especially as a Mac user. They have a Windows version too along with iOS and Android apps.

You can log into the same account on multiple computers with LastPass. That's what we use and it works fine.

 

There isn't any need to pay for the enterprise version.

Hi all,

 

I just wanted to report back that I have been looking at ManageEngine's Password Manager Pro since yesterday.

 

Its been really easy to setup, integrates with LDAP/AD and looks to do exactly what I want with regards to sharing different passwords with different users/groups.

 

I am waiting for pricing, but I believe it will cost about $495 a year for the standard version which includes 2 x admin users and unlimited regular users.

 

There is a premium version which allows you to directly launch/logon to RDP/ssh etc sessions and do a lot of clever stuff, but its a lot more expensive and I am not really bothered by those features.
