ConfigMgr 2012: Renaming computers during OSD

Hi all,

 

I've recently been playing around with our task sequences for OS deployments. I had initially integrated MDT into SCCM, so that I could use the MDT Tools and set the computer name as the machine's serial number. Due to our requirements here, I ended up just doubling the amount of task sequences. While this does work, it meant that every time I updated an application (Adobe's lovely Flash Player, for example), I would have to spend more time updating the task sequences. Perhaps an argument for learning how to set up dynamic variable lists, but that's for another day..

 

I then recently came across PowerShell script, that brings up a prompt towards the beginning of the sequence, so that we can manually enter the machine name. This has meant that I can reduce the number of task sequences back down to a more easily manageable number. However, I was wondering if anybody would be able to help me out with the following..

 

I would like to add an additional prompt before having to enter a computer name manually. Something along the lines of a "Would you like to rename this computer?", with "Yes" and "No" options. If you press "Yes", you're then given the prompt to enter a machine name. If you press "No", then the task for renaming the computer is skipped, and it will go ahead with the rest of the sequence.

 

I would love to be able to whip up a script like this myself, but I'm not exactly a PowerShell wizard. One day, maybe!
