caffrey Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Is this normal ? I've compared to other switches and it's a lot higher that those Port 24 has a lot of TX errors - It's the fibre link via a GBIC. I haven't got a spare to swap out, we've had a few issues with PC's on that segment of the network that I'm trying to pinpoint (Offline sync folder redirection issues) that have only just started to appear. It could be coincidence but we've had major power issues latey too

How long is the link and was it tested when it went in? I would try another pair of gbics if you can. I'm guessing port 9 is an AP? I have seen similar issues with an elderly gbic/fibre. Perhaps we could try some simply diagnostics rather than jumping on the overpriced Cisco bandwagon.

If you swap the gbics between ends it will help determine if it's the gbic LED failing, or the fibre. Assuming they are both compatible with each switch. If not, you can swap the fibre pair around to rule out the fibre first.

caffrey Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 Port 1 is the uplink to a 8 port PoE Toughswitch in the same cab that feeds the access points (3 of) and there's no errors on that. The switches are about 5 years old so are due to be replaced at some point, I've no idea how old or what the fibre is as it was installed before I started so it's easily over 7 years old now. I don't appear to be able to check for errors on the other end as its connected to a GS724AT and it maybe me but I can't find the logs for it! Only thing I can do is replace the switch or just try gbics (I think the ones that were installed were SMC) I checked out the offending PC's and there were no errors in the event log (the PC I checked was connected to port 4) problem is I can't seem to recreate the issue using a test student account so it's proving difficult to trace and it's happening to random students. With the PC's in the building of a similar specification and the same image I'm assuming it's a network link issue which is why I asked about the TX errors. I swapped the switch port the PC is connected to also to see if it makes any difference. @jszkudlapski I may take you up on that!
