AlfaTech Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 New Ninty development in the pipeline called Nintendo NX: The 'NX' is Nintendo's next-gen console, and it may be revealed next year | Consoles News | TechRadar Is it a next gen console, is it a Ninty OS, is it a cloud-streaming gaming platform? I guess we'll just have to wait and see what's NeXt.
tmcd35 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I've been following this on GAF and Eurogamer. Interesting. NX looks like new dedicated gaming hardware. Opinion seems split whether its a 3DS replacement, Wii-U replacement, Hybrid system replacing both, of something else entirely. By all accounts it really doesn't look like NX itself would be aimed at the smartphone market, more Nintendo are working with a mobile publisher to bring new Nintendo games based on existing Nintendo characters to smartphone platforms.
Dos_Box Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 I think that Nintendo is stuck between a rock and a hard place (and I can say this as a Wii, Wii U and 2x3DS purchaser/owner). If they announce a 'full spec' console now the already poor Wii U sales run the possibility of drying up. If they announce a spec to early they may also drive sales away to Sony and Microsoft if it isn't what consumers want. There were so many holes in the Wii U planning and capabilities, especially relating to online services that are still not fully up to speed they really do need something very special (and capable - I'm talking features, not just hardware) if they are to remain relevant in the home console space. And they need to heal the rift with third party developers who have all but abandoned the Wii U due to the alleged way they had been treated by Nintendo in its early days. Apparently there was a lack of documentation and information handed over to them when working on launch titles which Nintendo had kept for themselves making their offerings far superior to third party titles meaning many just about broke even (if at all) and didn't go back for a second try. There is a great article written by someone working for one of these companies and it is almost farsical what went on. I'm trying to find it (without much joy) and will post up a link as soon as I can.
