TechSupp Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Just had notice in for the warranty support renewal from HP. We are a primary school and the server is about 4 years old now (don't think we will be replacing soon). Whats the general thought on paying out to extend the warranty again, been given various options from Foundation care at £132 going up to £353 for 6hr Proactive care and all that's for just 1 Yr. Been given plenty of warning...current one runs out tomorrow!
Steve21 Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Depends what it provides I'd say, is it just curriculum side or SIMs etc? Would have the lowest one if it's not "that" important bits on it. Primaries generally a lot better at actually teaching rather than relying on YouTube etc Steve
TechSupp Posted March 16, 2015 Author Posted March 16, 2015 What it provides is a good question! Does not explain a thing to help make a choice. Not that I have money till April anyway! Looked on website and still no clearer. Think its just a way of getting us to pick most expensive to cover all situations!
Steve21 Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Sorry Maybe I should have expanded that, what's your server provide? As in is it full DC running everything for the entire primary? SIMs/Files etc? Steve
TechSupp Posted March 16, 2015 Author Posted March 16, 2015 Its OK, meant to type that in as well but forgot before hitting send! Its our main curriculum server, AV, DHCP, DNS File storage etc, all SIMS etc is done via admin.
Steve21 Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Honestly I'd say the foundation should be ok then unless you're truly likely to be scuppered by it having downtime, but find most primaries aren't. http://h20195.www2.hp.com/v2/GetPDF.aspx/4AA4-8876enw.pdf Even the lowest level should provide NDB on site (Outside holidays) Hardware support: – Coverage window: Standard business hours, standard business days: Service is available 9 hours per day between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday excluding HP holidays. – Onsite response time: Next-business-day onsite response: For incidents with covered hardware that cannot be resolved remotely, HP will use commercially reasonable efforts to respond onsite the next business day. An HP authorized representative will arrive at the Customer's site during the coverage window to begin hardware maintenance service the next coverage day after the call has been received and acknowledged by HP. Onsite response time specifies the period of time that begins when the initial call has been received and acknowledged by HP, as described in the ‘General provisions/Other exclusions’ section.’ The onsite response time ends when the HP authorized representative arrives at the Customer's site, or when the reported event is closed with the explanation that HP has determined it does not currently require an onsite intervention. Calls received outside the coverage window will be acknowledged the next coverage day and serviced within the following coverage day Unless it's changed recently. Steve
TechSupp Posted March 16, 2015 Author Posted March 16, 2015 Thanks, just phoned them and looks like we currently have Next Business Day which is the cheapest of their options, so that's all sorted...just got to keep fingers crossed till I get some money!
