Multipule O365 Tenancy's syncing from a single AD

Does anyone know if this is possible as I have one AD and one Exchange with multiple schools wanting there own Tenancy but there users accounts and exchange are currently in on AD

Not sure it is possible. It wasn't when I looked a few months back.

 

What's wrong with a single tenant if in a single domain anyway?

I don't think there would be enough free licences to cover all the users in one tenancy

Yep it is possible and has been for a while. In Rochdale 50 primary schools have their own 365 Tenancy but the users are all on the same domain.

You can get as many free licenses as you want.

You will need a separate instance of DirSync for each Tenant.

True but you can do some clever stuff with a single instance of FIM (which is what DirSync runs on). The only thing you need to remember is that you cannot have the same domain in 2 or more Office 365 tenants.
