ass17 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Anyone experiencing isses or great things from using 9.9 or 9.10 firmware? We want to upgrade but is it really worth it if there are no great must have features. We have APs supported under 9.10 so no issues with upgrating the APs if we had to... Any advice would be greatful...
FN-GM Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Didn't know 9.10 was out! - 2 schools are running 9.9 and its just fine. No issues to speak of.
Arthur Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 (edited) Anyone experiencing isses or great things from using 9.9 or 9.10 firmware? The only thing to be aware of is that after upgrading to 9.8 or 9.9 you have to download a support entitlement file from the Ruckus website (https://support.ruckuswireless.com/entitlement_file) and upload this to your ZoneDirector (under Administer » Support » Import a new entitlement file). If you don't do this you won't be able to install newer firmware updates (like 9.10) and there will be a banner at the top of the page with red text saying: A support upgrade entitlement does not appear to have been purchased for this ZD. Please contact Ruckus Support for further assistance This is what the release notes mention about support entitlement... In ZoneFlex release 9.8, a notification service was implemented in ZoneDirector to verify if a support contract has been purchased for an individual ZoneDirector. The ZoneDirector will remotely connect to a Ruckus Entitlement Server and retrieve an "entitlement file" from Ruckus that provides current active/expired status of the ZoneDirector Support Contract. If the support entitlement is not found or expired a warning message will be presented to the user with instructions on how to resolve the issue. In ZoneFlex release 9.9, this feature has been expanded such that if the support entitlement is not found or expired, ZD cannot be upgraded to either minor or major release. The on screen message provides instructions on how to obtain a support entitlement file to resolve this issue. We want to upgrade but is it really worth it if there are no great must have features. For us, the main reason to upgrade from 9.7.1.0.32 was so that newer versions of Android and iOS were officially supported for Zero-IT / Dynamic PSK. The usual bug fixes are nice to have as well. jtotheb Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Check the upgrade paths and caveats too. Personally, I'd go sequentially and take a bit longer for an easier life, but if you are skipping a release in the upgrade chain then you need to be careful how you do it. E.g. Upgrading to 9.10 is best done from 9.9. Firstly you need the support entitlement as mentioned above, but also you're prompted to factory reset the box if you jump from 9.8->9.10 rather than 9.8->9.9->9.10 (as 9.9->9.10 doesn't require the reset). As far as I'm aware you also couldn't jump straight from 9.6 as the release notes of 9.9.x I'm looking at have 9.7 listed as the lowest supported upgrade path.
