Patrick Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Hi, We need some recommendations for wireless solutions if possible! The nursery building for our school is a few meters away from the main building. The nursery has no wired network infrastructure. A Unifi AP is pointing towards the nursery and all devices in the nursery are wireless. However, the signal is quite poor and can drop out sometimes. What we need is some sort of wireless bridge, going from the main building to the nursery. If the device in the nursery can pick up the signal and broadcast it without the need for switching equipment that'd be great. We have line of sight with windows so they don't need to be outdoor maybe? Anyone any suggestions?
Gaz Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 (edited) Yeah you could run it in a mesh so it only needs power but it would need to be a good signal from the first AP. Is it not possible to run an ethernet cable to it? Unifi call this Wireless Uplink. http://wiki.ubnt.com/UniFi_FAQ#Wireless_Uplink Edited March 5, 2015 by Gaz
Patrick Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 No it can only be done wirelessly unfortunately! I'll look up some guides on how to set this up, is it straightforward?
IrritableTech Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 (edited) Do you know the situation is almost identical to one I dealt with last week. A nursery a few meters away - no infrastructure, unifi wireless... uncanny. Anyway. I ended up placing a Ubiquiti Nanostation M2 in bridge mode mounted internally in the nursary. The idea was that if it didn't work as I hoped, I could get another m2 point and use it as a p2p link. The M2 plugged into a small switch along with a photocopier (which needed to be shared as a printer) and another standard unifi AP. It worked a treat and the kit only cost a touch over £100. RobD Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 I know a good cabling company, charge around £600 a day (labour and material).....
Patrick Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 Cable just isn't going to happen. I'll look into setting up another Unifi AP in mesh mode! Thanks guys!
