Valve are apparently using GDC (march 4th) to announce a VR Headset and confirm the new controller!

any one else heard anything about that?

First I've heard of a VR headset...

 

It's a shame but I think they've totally killed the chances of a Steambox now. When the ball first started rolling and manufacturers started releasing pricing/specs, I really thought it'd have a fighting chance, but now with all these delays, I think the tiny chance it had of success have been totally squashed.

 

That, and it's stupidly easy to make your own "Steambox" running on Windows, bypassing all of the compatibility issues that still haunt Linux as far as AAA titles are concerned.

 

Valve needed to do a lot more a lot sooner I think.

As for Steam Machines, I think the recent Alienware boxes prove its impossible to build a generic PC that can compete with consoles on price without being a loss leader and being able to leverage income from licensing game sales: New Alienware Alpha | Dell UK - Another year/eighteen-months and PC price/performance will reach the right point but buy then will be over midway on the current console cycle and wondering what Nintendo's next plans are...
