mdrabble Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 Looking to for purchase a new NAS box to store backups using DPM2012. - Budget of approx £3K could possibly stretch to 4K if needed but prefer to stick around the £3k mark. Inherited an 8TB Buffalo NAS and this is running short on space! My plan is to purchase a bigger NAS, and then replicate Critical data to the 8TB NAS If any suppliers are reading this - feel free to PM me with quotes :-)
Asgard Posted February 5, 2015 Posted February 5, 2015 We use two 24tb Netgear ReadyNas Pro316E with DPM 2012R2 One is the iSCSI backup volume, the second uses Firestreamer ( virtual tape library ) to give us long term retention. We have a 3rd readynas as an offsite backup, which was part of a collaborative case study. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ukhe/archive/2014/05/16/making-literature-come-alive-with-office-365.aspx The "E" gives you enterprise class disks and a 5yr warranty - think they were about 3k each 1
bossman Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 @mdrabble: We have been using one of these with 4TB drives but the latest models support 8TB drives x24 which gives you plenty of storage and you can rack them up easy peasy and you can also hybrid them using SSDs for the caching and SATA for the data storage, so versatile and fast. https://www.synology.com/en-global/products/RS3614xs+ Excellent product and we did ours for around £4K 1
